The Creative Challenge

Students learned about the changing world, how this might impact on their careers and how creativity might be the key to their future well-being.

The prezi summarises this point.

The Creative Challenge

Students learned that creativity is a learnable skill rather than an innate quality. Creativity can be developed by applying 4 habits (after Robert Epstein).
  • Capture
  • Challenge
  • Broaden
  • Surround
Students also took part in a community of enquiry activity where they formulated and then chose a quality question based on the session's learning.

Below is a selection of their questions.

The community of enquiry activity also generated the following questions.
  • To what extent are mistakes a useful part of the creative process?
  • Why is it difficult to think of quality solutions?
  • Is time pressure helpful or unhelpful in creating quality products?
  • How important is evaluation to the creative process?
  • Are the best questions those to which we don’t already know the answer?
  • Why do we sometimes get too attached to our own ideas?
  • How important is the presentation of ideas to judging their quality?
  • How does the decision making process affect the quality of the outcome?
  • What sorts of environments encourage a creative frame of mind?
  • What sorts of questions are most powerful in developing our understandings?
